AI Agents + ArcGIS Pro: Build GIS Tools Safely with AI
On Udemy
About this course
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
AI can write your ArcPy in seconds. It can also invent functions, guess field names, write old ArcMap code and overwrite your data. This short course shows you how to get the first without the second.
You'll follow Riverbend Water's Palm District, a small synthetic dataset of hydrants, schools, pipes and messy service requests, and solve real GIS tickets. Every ticket is solved twice: first the old way (clicking through ArcGIS Pro, or pasting code from a chat app), then the new way, with an AI coding agent that reads your rules, checks the official ArcPy documentation, tests its own work and proves the result.
Built for the current versions: ArcGIS Pro 3.7, Python 3.13 and ArcPy 3.7. It works with any agent: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Gemini CLI, a chat app like ChatGPT, or the new ArcGIS Pro assistant (beta). You'll see what each one sees, where each one stops, and how to pick.
What's inside14 short videos (a 40-second welcome plus 13 lessons), about 67 minutes in total, with lots of animated editor and ArcGIS Pro walkthroughs.
A ready-to-use starter kit: an AGENTS file with rules every agent reads (plus Claude Code, Cursor and Copilot pointers), a schema file, a folder of ArcPy doc cards with official links, a review checklist and a checker script with 8 automatic checks.
A task notebook for every lesson, with gaps to fill, hints and a checker, plus a separate solution. They run offline in any Python 3; parts marked (Pro) run in ArcGIS Pro.
An 8-question quiz to check that the safety habits stuck.
